Khuvsgul Lake, located in the northern part of our country, is the deepest lake in Central Asia. Almost half of the area is more than 100 meters deep because this lake was formed by a deep depression formed by the rise of mountains. The water of Khuvsgul Lake is clean, low in mineral salts and organic matter, and rich in oxygen even though it is deep. The water is as clear as a mountain stream, so fish can be seen many meters deep. A hundred streams originating from the permanently snow-capped mountains flow into Khuvsgul Lake. Khuvsgul lake has four islands: Khatan navel, Ocean navel, Modon navel and Baga navel. Khuvsgul Lake has been a waterway for communication with neighboring countries since ancient times, so it has an advantage over other lakes. Mongolians affectionately call this lake "Khuvsgul Dalai (sea)”.
Selenge river. Selenge River is the largest river in our country. The Delger River, which originates in the Khuvsgul Mountains, and the Ider River, which originates behind the Khangai Mountains, merge to form the Selenge River. In total, the Selenge River basin covers four hundred and forty-seven thousand square kilometers, more than fifty percent of which lies in Mongolia(🇲🇳). Selenge River is two hundred and fifty meters wide in places and up to four to five meters deep. It is of great economic importance due to its abundance resources. The Selenge river is used for water transport, and it has been determined that it is possible to build a hydroelectric power plant on this river.
